It feels like an oven outside right now. Temperatures across Europe are steadily climbing over thirty degrees Celsius, and this weekend we are facing absolute hell, pushing 40 degrees in the shade. While we can hide in air conditioning or by the water, our e-scooters take the full brunt of the scorching asphalt. Extreme heat takes a brutal toll on the electronics and especially the batteries. Here are 5 tips on how to survive this weather with your Teverun (or any other e-scooter, really) without irreversible damage.

1. The sun is your biggest enemy

Never leave your scooter in direct sunlight. This applies without exception even to parking behind a glass storefront or window, where the greenhouse effect works reliably. The battery and internal electronics inside the enclosed black chassis can heat up to absolutely critical levels. If you leave it parked there, you are asking for significantly shortened battery life in the best-case scenario, and a fatal failure of the entire battery pack in the worst—and trust me, that’s a nightmare you don’t want to deal with. Always look for shade.

2. Charging can wait. At least half an hour

Just got home from work, riding through the scorching city, dumped the scooter in the hallway and immediately plugged it in? That’s a fast track to destroying your battery. Charging itself generates additional heat. Sending this heat into a battery that’s already cooked from the ride is like adding fuel to the fire. Let the machine breathe after you arrive. Half an hour is the absolute minimum; in these extreme temperatures, don’t be afraid to wait even longer until the entire deck and motors cool down to room temperature.

3. Forget the summer rally

The sweltering heat is no better for your scooter than it is for you. If you don’t want the protective thermal throttling mechanisms to abruptly shut you down halfway through your trip, ease off the throttle. Give it a break. In these temperatures, forget about testing top speeds, aggressive acceleration, or long pulls up steep hills at full power. Slow your pace and ride smoothly and sensibly.

4. Plan your stops and monitor the temperatures

First, consider if you really need to ride in this inferno. If it’s necessary and you have a longer route ahead, take regular breaks. After a few kilometers or one long hill, it’s time for a check. Open the Teverun app and see what temperatures the battery and controllers are reporting. Assuming your machine allows this, of course (it’s possible with the Blade GT, Fighter Mini, and higher-end models).

At the same time, manually check the motors. Ideally, their temperature shouldn’t exceed 50 °C. You don’t need a thermometer; just carefully try placing your hand on the motor. Once it’s too hot to keep your hand there, game over. Park the scooter in the shade, let it cool down properly, and then head straight back.

5. A parked car is a death trap

Just as you would never leave a child, a dog, or your grandma locked in a parked car under the summer sun, under no circumstances should you leave your e-scooter there either. The temperature inside a car skyrockets extremely fast, easily turning it into a hot oven. Even if the scooter survives it at first glance, every stint in a scorching car unnecessarily damages it and reduces its overall capacity.

How to cool it down? A bucket of cold water doesn't work

One honest piece of advice to wrap things up—please, don’t be stupid and don’t try to cool an overheated scooter by pouring water over it. The thermal shock would destroy whatever the heat hasn’t yet, not to mention the damage the water itself could do to the electronics or bearings. Just park the scooter somewhere relatively cool. Normal air circulation will take care of the rest. At most, if you want to speed up the process, place it in a room with air conditioning or a regular fan.

Common sense is the best protection

While Teverun is built from massive materials and designed for heavy loads, you simply can’t cheat physics. Extreme summer heat just requires a bit more thought and planning. If you approach the scooter with the same common sense you use to take care of yourself in thirty-five-degree heat—seeking shade, not standing in the sun unnecessarily, not overexerting yourself, and letting the machine cool down after a workout—it will reward you with maximum reliability, and the battery will keep its condition for seasons to come. Enjoy your summer kilometers, but keep a light touch on the throttle and a cool head.
